My Approach

For me, the therapy office is a place for curiosity and inquiry. My hope is to create a supportive and non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences together. As a team, we can investigate how they are supporting or distracting you from reaching your goals and living in alignment with your values.

I find that transparency is a great way to build trust. Therapy doesn’t have to be a magical black box. I enjoy demystifying the therapeutic process by sharing how we operate as humans and why certain therapeutic techniques work. It’s my goal that you can bring a little more of the therapy office home with you after each session.

Therapeutic Orientation

My approach always holds the person at the centre, because I don’t believe healing comes from pathologizing the human experience. My practice is trauma-informed and strengths-based.

A little bit about Kim

I love to learn so I am a dabbler in many things. I love music, literature, hiking, games, good food, rock climbing, travelling, and cuddling with my dog.

Background & Experience

After challenges with my mental health as a young adult, I realized how little knowledge and understanding I had about myself. I pursued a Bachelor’s of Psychology with a goal of self-knowledge and to help others going through similar challenges. I began working in crisis intervention and eventually pursued a Master’s of Social Work to support people through more of their change journey. I have spent the past several years providing counselling in an inpatient setting to folks with a variety of therapeutic goals.

Official Certifications

I hold a Master of Social Work and I am a Registered Social Worker with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (#13949).

Frequently Asked Questions about Registered Social Workers:

What is the difference between a Registered Clinical Counsellor and a Registered Social Worker?

Both Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) and Registered Social Workers (RSWs) are trained, regulated mental health professionals who provide counselling and therapy. The difference comes down to their professional background, not the level of care you’ll receive.

  • RCCs are registered through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and are trained specifically in counselling and psychotherapy.

  • RSWs are registered through the BC College of Social Workers (BCCSW) and are trained in counselling, mental health, and understanding how relationships, life experiences, and the world around us shape our wellbeing.

In sessions, many clients don’t notice a difference at all. What tends to matter most is how safe you feel, how understood you feel, and whether the therapist feels like a good fit for you.

Can an RSW provide counselling or therapy?

Yes—absolutely. RSWs are fully qualified to provide counselling and therapeutic support, just like RCCs. They follow professional and ethical standards and regularly update their training to ensure high-quality care.

Will my insurance cover sessions with an RSW?

Many extended health plans cover Registered Social Workers, just as they do RCCs. Coverage can vary, so we recommend checking directly with your insurance provider to understand your specific benefits.
