My Approach

I believe meaningful change happens when we feel safe enough to be honest about what is really going on inside of ourselves.

My approach to counselling is warm, curious, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Together, we’ll slow things down enough to notice what’s happening beneath the surface: your emotions, patterns, beliefs, relationships, and the ways your nervous system responds to stress and uncertainty.

I bring both compassion and gentle challenge into the counselling room. Sometimes we need a space where we can simply be heard and understood. Other times, it can be helpful to have someone notice a pattern, ask a different question, or help us consider a new possibility.

My approach is primarily person-centred and solution-focused, while also drawing from evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, emotion-focused, and nervous-system-informed practices. Rather than focusing only on what is “wrong,” I’m interested in what is already working, the strengths and resources you bring with you, and what might help you move toward the life you want to create.

As a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology student completing my practicum at Boundless Heart Counselling Group, I am working toward becoming a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. Before entering the counselling field, my work spanned education, public speaking, writing, and life and business coaching.

For more than 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals and groups through conversations about personal growth, identity, relationships, leadership, and meaningful change. These experiences have deepened my curiosity about people, the stories we carry, and our capacity to grow and create change in our lives.

Areas of Practice:

  • Relationships and boundaries

  • Life transitions

  • Parenting and family-related stress

  • Career and workplace challenges

  • Navigating uncertainty and change

  • Navigating health-related challenges

If you feel drawn to my approach but don’t see yourself reflected in these categories, I encourage you to reach out to explore whether we might be a good fit.

A little bit about Heather:

Outside of counselling, I’m a mom of three and love spending time with my family and friends. I’m happiest near the ocean, around a table having a meaningful conversation, or doing something that gets me out of my head and into my body, whether that’s lifting weights, yoga, surfing, or travelling somewhere new.

I’m an author, lifelong learner, and someone who is endlessly curious about people and the stories that shape us. I love good coffee, travel, books, deep conversations, and probably asking one more deep question when everyone else thought the conversation was over.

After growing up on the prairies in Winnipeg, I now call Vancouver home and still regularly stop to appreciate the fact that the mountains and ocean are right outside my door.
